Happy International Day of Yoga

Happy International Day of Yoga! Today is the fourth anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. In 2014, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, addressed the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He spoke of the benefits of Yoga, such as how it fosters a healthy lifestyle and how it unifies the body and mind. As a result, he convinced 175 member states to endorse the proposal and the International Day of Yoga was born. Thank you, Minister Modi!

Four years later and people around the world have embraced this day to celebrate Yoga. Many studios offer a free class, and the masses gather to celebrate by practising on the beach, in a park or at famous landmarks. The theme for 2018 is ‘Yoga for Peace.’ Let’s hope that we can inject some more peace in the world on this day.

Today, I plan to have a Yoga session with my best yoga buddy. Later, since I’m fortunate enough to live by the beach, I’ll finish the day with a short session of Moon Salutes on the sand. What are your plans for the International Day of Yoga?
