Happy International Day of Yoga 2020

Happy International Day of Yoga! Today is the sixth anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. In 2014, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, addressed the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He spoke of the benefits of Yoga, such as how it fosters a healthy lifestyle and how it unifies the body and mind. As a result, he convinced 175 member states to endorse the proposal and the International Day of Yoga was born. Thank you, Minister Modi!

This year, because of the global pandemic, there may be less mass gatherings and festivals to promote the day, but you can still find some online events where classes such as yoga, meditation and kirtan are being offered. The theme for 2020 is Yoga for Health – Yoga at Home. The UN Web TV site will be offering some virtual online classes as well so be sure to check that out.

Today, considering it’s a rather cold and wet day, I plan to stay close to home, have a meditation session and celebrate International Day of Yoga by making a yummy orange and saffron cake! What are your plans? Feel free to leave your comment below.
